It was a bittersweet gathering of environmental partners.

Led by US Ambassador Kristie Kenney, USAID Sustainable Energy Development Program (USAID SEDP) expressed gratitude to all government counterparts and private partners during the “Thank You Party” held last September 15 at the Jade Pavillion, The Blue Leaf, McKinley Hill Village, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Peace Defenders are also Eco Defenders

Crew of USS George Washington, Philippine Navy read to children in special Inquirer Read Along Session

They came as defenders of peace and freedom. But after a special Read Along Session at the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI), the crew of the USS George Washington and members of the Philippine Navy became "kuya" (big brother) and "ate" (big sister) to some 50 children in their quest to protect the environment.

USAID SEDP, CCBC raise media practitioners' awareness on renewable energy

USAID SEDP and the Clean Cities Baguio Coalition (CCBC) concluded its alternative fuels and renewable energy study tour trilogy recently with the media practitioners from Bagiuo City. Earlier study tours were for teachers that wrote AF and RE modules and Pinoy Green Academy participants from SEDP's 5 pilot clean cities.

Miss Earth-Air 2008 Razel Eguia leads storytelling session

Last July 18, United States Agency for International Development Sustainable Energy Development Program (USAID SEDP) in partnership with the Philippine Daily Inquirer shared the story about young environmental heroes dubbed as “Eco Defenders” to more than a hundred grade schoolers together with their parents and guardians in Navotas Elementary School.

USAID-SEDP, Ayala Foundation, Inc. launch new Waste Buster cinema ad

USAID-SEDP and the Ayala Foundation, Inc. launched the 3rd installment of the Eco Defenders cinema ads at the Bonifacio Global City last July 8, 2009. The new 60-seconds Waste Buster cinema ad featured Waste Buster singing a new jingle, videoke-style, and encouraging waste segregation, the 3Rs, use of reusable bags, and other tips.

In celebration of National Environment Month, Manila Water Company in partnership with the City Government of Makati, Department of Education and Department of Health held a daylong activity at the Magallanes Interchange Park last June 26.

In 2006, Ginger Conejero,  joined the Fuels for Life Movement (F4L), USAID Sustainable Energy Development Program’s project forging individuals, public and private institutions to be environmental advocates promoting and supporting the campaign for alternative fuels and clean air. That time, Conejero won Miss Earth-Air 2006.

USAID SEDP’s  Pinoy Green Academy Youth Talents joined the Weeklong Alternative Energy Caravan

The most awaited weeklong Pinoy Green Academy (PGA) Caravan was held successfully on May 4-8, 2009. The Sustainable Energy Development Program (SEDP) in partnership with the Clean Cities Coalitions from Baguio, Davao, Makati, Marikina and Iloilo, the Department of Energy, Department of Education Division Offices from Makati and Davao, Seaoil Philippines Inc., Manila Ocean Park and the La Mesa Eco Park Foundation have shown their support and contributed to the success of this event. The 5-day caravan was participated by selected PGA graduates from Baguio, Davao, Makati, Marikina and Iloilo City together with their teacher advisers and Clean Cities representatives.  The various tour sites of the caravan were La Mesa Ecopark, Philippine Information Agency, Mak-Ban Geothermal Power Plant, SunPower Manufacturing Limited, NBN Channel 4, and Manila Ocean Park.

US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney was invited as the special guest in the recent Earth Day 2009 celebration in SM Mall of Asia.

United States Agency for International Development Sustainable Energy Development Program (USAID SEDP) joined the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Earth Day Network and SM Mall of Asia in the celebration dubbed as “ Tubig at Lupa Buhayin, Hangin Linisin, Batas Tuparin.”

USAID SEDP celebrated Earth Day 2009 with a weeklong alternative fuels and renewable energy module writeshop caravan from April 20 to 25, 2009. The caravan was a weeklong study tour of select teachers from SEDP's pilot clean cities namely: Baguio, Davao, Makati, Marikina and Iloilo.

Phase 1 of Iloilo City's Climate Protection Strategy promotes energy efficiency and conservation

USAID SEDP and the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Clean Cities Coalition (MIGCCC), in partnership with the Iloilo CIty Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) recently held the first of a series of workshops aimed at reducing Iloilo City's carbon emissions. The climate change workshop on energy efficiency and conservation is the first under the City's Climate Protection Strategy being implemented by the CENRO.

March 22 is World Water Day.

In the Philippines, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) in partnership with Ayala Foundation Inc. and Trinoma  Mall held a weeklong celebration for the Philippine Water Week dubbed as    “Makibahagi : Pagyamanin ang Tubig Natin,” at the 4th Floor, Cinema Lobby of Trinoma Mall in Quezon City.

US Ambassador Kristie Kenney, together with USAID Philippines officials, graced the Panagbenga 2009 Street Dancing Presentation at the Athletic Bowl in Baguio City. USAID Sustainable Energy Development Program participated in the Street Dancing Event with the theme Eco Defenders (Tips to help reduce Climate Change). The Eco Defenders is a story about three ordinary kids who become superheroes because of their love and concern for the environment.

Davao City—the last leg of Pinoy Green Academy (PGA) Workshop was definitely an impressive and successful two-day workshop held last January 23-24, 2009 in Magallanes Central Elementary School. The event was in partnership with the Department of Education-Division Office of Davao City, the Sustainable Energy Development Program (SEDP), Clean Cities Davao Coalition, Inc. (CCDCI) and Department of Energy- Region XI. The PGA is in line with the extensive Information, Education, and Communication plan of SEDP in equipping the youth to be talents for the environment.

SEDP’s Pinoy Green Academy reaches Baguio City SEDP, together with the Clean Cities Baguio Coalition (CCBC), has marked another milestone in creating a pool of young environmental public speakers in Baguio City through the Pinoy Green Academy (PGA).  PGA aims to equip the youth in its five pilot cities with environmental knowledge and at the same time, to boost their talents and confidence in expressing themselves in public.
